Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen: ICEYE’s contract with Sweden will strengthen security across the Nordic region
Sweden will procure SAR satellites from the Finnish company ICEYE Oy.
The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Finnish space-technology company ICEYE have signed a contract to deliver SAR satellites and associated software and systems for Sweden. The procurement will enhance Sweden’s space-based intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities across the Nordic region. ICEYE satellites can collect images and monitor any location on earth in all weather and lighting conditions.
“We have frequently invited ICEYE to join in on meetings of Nordic defence ministers and built a satellite coalition involving several countries. This recent contract with Sweden marks an important step towards sovereign space-based intelligence capabilities in the Nordic region. It will also strengthen Finland’s defence and the security of the entire Nordic region,” Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen said.
The Finnish Defence Forces concluded a similar contract with ICEYE in September 2025. Finland also signed a letter of intent on SAR satellite cooperation with Poland and the Netherlands in December 2025.
