Finland hosts NATO’s Arctic Space Forum
Finland’s Ministry of Defence and NATO’s Defence Investment Division co-host NATO’s first Arctic Space Forum in Helsinki on 11–12 November.
The main topic of the forum is the strategic significance of the Arctic and the importance of investing in the Alliance’s defence resources and especially in its space capabilities. The forum also discusses how closer cooperation between the defence sector and the commercial space sector can help reduce supply chain dependencies, increase industrial capacity and ensure access to cutting-edge technologies. Another topic is NATO’s role in bringing these sectors together to build an interoperable space architecture.
“The Arctic Space Forum is organised by NATO and hosted by Finland, giving Allies a platform to exchange views on the capability and industrial dimension of space cooperation. An equally important objective is to create opportunities for stakeholders, such as the Finnish space industry, to engage in dialogue with NATO and Allies,” said Director General Olli Ruutu from the Finnish Ministry of Defence.
The Forum will bring together experts from the defence administrations of 25 Allies, from NATO structures and from more than 20 companies in the space sector.
