Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen: A maintenance and service centre for MLRS Common Fire Control System will be created in Finland
On Thursday 25 June, the Finnish Defence Forces, the Finnish technology company Insta and Lockheed Martin signed an agreement to create a maintenance and service centre in Finland. The centre will be located at Insta’s offices in Tampere.
The Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is manufactured by Lockheed Martin. It is a self-propelled heavy rocket launch system in the Finnish Army’s artillery.
The creation of a capability to maintain the MLRS Common Fire Control System is part of the indirect industrial participation linked to Finland’s F-35 Programme, deepening the defence materiel cooperation between Finland and the United States.
“It is a testament to the strong expertise of our defence industry that Finland is the first European country to host an MLRS Common Fire Control System maintenance and service centre. The indirect industrial participation linked to the F-35 Programme will create new jobs and further increase the high technology expertise of the Finnish defence industry,” Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen said.
Insta is a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces. It is responsible for building maintenance and service capabilities for the avionics (electronic systems) of the Finnish Air Force’s F-35 fighters and related support services.
