MATINE – THE SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD FOR DEFENCE

The Scientific Advisory Board For Defence (MATINE) operates in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Defence in order to promote research that supports military national defence and security.

MATINE’s mission statement

MATINE is a wide-ranging scientific research and expert network that includes representation of universities, higher education institutions, research institutions, industry, the Defence Administration and other authorities responsible for the security and vital operations of society.

MATINE operates in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Defence in order to promote research that supports military national defence and security (Government Decree 3/2019). The Advisory Board is appointed by the Finnish Government and its term of office is three years. MATINE has been in operation since 1961.

The will for national defence arises from society. The operation of MATINE is based on voluntary expert work supported, coordinated and resourced by the Defence Administration.
