The operation of the Research Unit supports knowledge management in the Ministry. Research provides grounds for the planning, decision-making and development regarding defence capability. The research activities focus on operating environment analysis and networked defence. Operating environment analysis anticipates developments in the operating environment and identifies possibilities and threats. The research of networked defence focuses on analysing their effects on the defence capability and evaluating the options available to the administrative branch as a part of preventive development of networked defence. The content-related focus areas of research are defined in the strategic research agenda of the administrative branch.
The operational method is close networking with national and international research cooperation. Management and guidance ensure the close interaction of strategic research and strategy work in the administrative branch.
