Finland to sign letter of intent on SAR satellite cooperation with Poland and the Netherlands
Earlier this year, Finland’s Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen authorised the Finnish Defence Forces to procure synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites from the Finnish company ICEYE Oy. Finland aims to build international cooperation around the use of these satellites.
The purpose of the letter of intent Finland will sign with Poland and the Netherlands is to build a foundation for the countries to work together in the use of monitoring satellites. The countries will launch measures to develop satellite use and improve their monitoring and intelligence capabilities.
“We are taking concrete steps forward in our efforts to build space capabilities together with important allies. Finland’s satellites and the high level of technological expertise in our country build a firm foundation for continued cooperation in this field,” said Minister Häkkänen.
Other partner countries are also expected to join the new cooperation.
