Captain (Navy, med.) Juha-Petri Ruohola appointed Surgeon General of Defence Forces

On the proposal of the Government, the President of the Republic decided today that the Navy’s Chief Physician Juha-Petri Sakari Ruohola will be appointed to the post of Surgeon General of the Defence Forces for the period of 1 November 2022-31 March 2026.

Captain (Navy, med.) Juha-Petri Ruohola, born in 1964, has served as Chief Physician at the Navy Command since 2016. His previous work experience include posts as chief physician, researcher and senior researcher at the Centre for Military Medicine, as senior ward physician and research physician at the Central Military Hospital, and as chief physician, senior ward physician and military physician at the Pori Brigade. Ruohola has also served in crisis management tasks, for example as Chief Physician in the UN’s UNMEE Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea and as Deputy Chief of Staff in the EUNAVFOR MED operation in the Mediterranean.

Juha-Petri Ruohola completed a doctorate in medical science at the University of Helsinki in 2008. He was promoted to Captain (Navy, med.) in 2018.
