Finland and Denmark to enhance their defence cooperation
Finland’s Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen and Denmark’s Minister of Defence Troels Lund Poulsen signed a joint declaration on Tuesday 4 March 2025 in connection with the Danish state visit to Finland. In the declaration, the two countries underline their readiness to enhance bilateral defence cooperation. The ministers also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Defence of Finland and Denmark regarding bilateral defence cooperation.
According to the joint declaration, Finland and Denmark intend to enhance their bilateral defence cooperation in a number of areas, including NATO’s deterrence and defence, maritime cooperation, F-35s, military exercises and training, and military acquisitions.
“Denmark is a valued ally for Finland, and its role in safeguarding the security of supply and military mobility in the Baltic Sea is important for us. Our cooperation will deepen even further when both Finland and Denmark are under NATO’s Joint Force Command Norfolk. It will also open new opportunities for our countries to work together to strengthen NATO’s deterrence and defence,” said Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.
The Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defence cooperation aims to strengthen the defence of Finland and Denmark as well as regional security and NATO’s deterrence and defence.
