Minister of Defence’s New Year’s Day reception cancelled
Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen has decided to cancel the traditional New Year’s Day reception because of the current coronavirus situation.
The reception was scheduled for 1 January 2021. The list of guests traditionally includes different cooperation partners of the defence administration, war veterans and lottas, representatives of national defence organisations, the highest political leaders, and representatives of the Defence Forces, the business community and various organisations. The tradition of holding a reception dates as far back as to 1947.
“It is highly important to consider the coronavirus situation in all our activities. Although it is unfortunate to have to cancel a patriotic event, it is the right decision in these circumstances”, says Minister Kaikkonen.
