US Deputy Secretary of Defence Robert Work visits Helsinki on 6–7 October 2016

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Jukka Juusti will host the visit of US Deputy Secretary of Defence Robert Work to Helsinki on 6–7 October. 

In connection with Deputy Defence Secretary Work's visit there will be a meeting of the US, Nordic and Baltic Permanent/State Secretaries or Deputy Ministers on 7 October. The topics on the agenda include security issues in Northern Europe, regional and transatlantic defence cooperation, and topical questions relating to the coalition against ISIL. The previous similar meeting between the United States and Nordic and Baltic countries was held in Stockholm, Sweden in April 2016.

Finland will also host a meeting between the United States, Finland and Sweden to discuss cooperation between the countries.

During Deputy Defence Secretary Work's visit Permanent Secretary Jukka Juusti will be hosting bilateral defence policy negotiations between Finland and the United States on 6–7 October. 

At the negotiations a Statement of Intent on bilateral defence cooperation between Finland and the United States is to be signed by the Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö and US Deputy Secretary of Defence Robert Work. The Statement of Intent will be published and more information on its content will be given on Friday after it has been signed.

A Press Conference on the meeting between the United States and the Nordic and Baltic countries will be held on 7 October at 16.00–16.30. For security reasons registration is required by 6 October at 15.00 at tiedotus@defmin.fi.
