Colonel Laatikainen to become Commander of the Southern Command

At the Government plenary session on 19 January 2012, the appointment of Colonel Pertti Laatikainen to the fixed-term position of general from 1 March 2012 to 30 June 2014 and his appointment to Commander of the Southern Command as of 1 March 2012 were presented to the President of the Republic.

Colonel Pertti Olavi Laatikainen (born in 1957) has served since 2008 as Head of Training in the Defence Command. Prior to this he acted as Director of the Reserve Officer School; Commander of the Guard Jaeger Regiment; Deputy Chief of the Training Division and staff officer of the Personnel Division in the Defence Command; Chief of Operations UNTSO in the Middle East; Director of the Sports School; and general staff officer in Helsinki Military District.  He passed the General Staff Officer examination in 1993. He has also studied in Sweden. Pertti Laatikainen was promoted to colonel in 2002.
