Finnish industrial and research actors well represented in European Defence Fund projects
The results of the call for applications by the European Defence Fund (EDF) for 2023 have been published. The EDF finances the research and development projects of defence sector actors in the EU Member States by approximately EUR one billion annually. Finnish companies and research institutes are about to participate in 19 funded projects.
- A broad range of Finnish companies and research institutes are represented in projects that have been granted funding. Project cooperation provides a channel for the future development and research of the Defence Forces' military capabilities. The cooperation projects will also strengthen interoperability with the armed forces of other Member States, says Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.
- The EDF is a key instrument for Finland to strengthen the operating conditions for the national defence industry, and projects will facilitate the access of Finnish actors to the European supply chains
The Defence Forces have made a preliminary decision to participate in seven different development projects in which Finnish industries are represented. Apart from these, the research topics include two projects coordinated by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. These research projects are related to sensor systems and disruptive technologies.
