Defence Forces to purchase long-range air-to-surface missiles
Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has approved the additional purchase of JASSM missiles that will enhance the long-range air to surface capability. Missiles will be delivered in line with the schedule for the deployment of future F-35 multi-role fighters.
The JASSM-ER (Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile – Extended Range) missiles will be fitted to the F-35A multi-role fighters that will replace F/A-18 Hornet capabilities.

During the competitive tender for the HX project in 2020, the United States Congress granted a marketing authorisation for AGM-158B JASSM-ER missiles that are manufactured by Lockheed Martin. Apart from the United States, only a few allies use JASSM missiles.
