LEGAL UNIT
The Legal Unit prepares the legal framework for military defence, in other words the laws and presidential decrees, government decrees and ministry of defence decrees.
For example, the decrees on conscription, state of defence, military service for women on a voluntary basis, surveillance of Finnish territory, organisation and tasks of the defence forces, conducting police duties by the defence forces, international peace support operations, export and transit of defence materiel, military training given in the defence forces and health care are drafted in the Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry's official documents (such as the government's propositions, decrees relating to the administrative branch and answers to the written inquiries by parliament) are given also in Swedish. Also documents in English are drafted in the unit.
In addition, the Ministry of Defence participates in the law-drafting process in other ministries when it is connected to defence administration.
